Stonking session this avo. the new WNW swell hs arrived for the next week and is blessed with offshores the entire time.

Had the boulder reef to myself for an hour before the other boyo's arrived.
Solid 4-5ft reeling down the reef. I was on my game for once and making the most of the sections and ramps for more air tricks than i've ever pulled before.
Just the 4 of us out for the whole eve. the banter was great. In for about 3hrs before hunger got the better of me.

Back in at the same place today slightly smaller and a little bit of chop about but it was only me out :)

Shots taken when tide was still a little too high and not hollowing out quite yet.
Note cranking slab in bottom pic :)

Our Trip to Cornwall

Postby Knightsy Boy! » Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:15 am

So last week me and my mate, and our 2 girlfriends went up to Cornwall.. I wanted to go there for the surfing and they all thought i was crazy for thinking you needed a wetsuit! I was like just wait..

Anyway we arrived, and as soon as we got there I wanted to hire my board (I couldnt take one the car wouldnt allow it!) So I went down to the local surf shop and hired a 6"7' Bic shortboard, which was ok I guess..

My friend wanted to go into the water aswel, although I did advise him to get some kind of wetsuit or anything he refused, so we went out.. and the surf was anything but good really, was really small!! I had my shortie on and the weather was mostly unpleasent, so that was a bad idea.. But my friend was absolutley freezing!! His nipples stayed hard for the next 2 days!! Was really funny! Heres a pic of him and me on the first day! (He is on the bodyboard on the left)

In the water..
Image

Afterward, quarter of the man when he went in.. Literally!!
Image

So anyway, he saw me catch a couple of small waves and decided that he should get a board, I said that the only one he should really go for is a longish foam board.. so we popped down to down the line and got a Alder 7ft and a full wetsuit for myself, my old one I had grown out of! So after that spending spree of about 300 quid we were finally set, however he still only wanted a rash vest! I said that would do hardly nothing, but still he refused to get a wetsuit..

So we went out and I taught him how to surf in white water mainly, I was quite impatient as I could see the big waves behind, but i knew another day would come.. So I taught him how to paddle and when to start but heres a couple of pics of us in action, Im the guy with the brown hair..

Image

I was pretty difficult to get a could wave for him but we tried and tried, was pretty nackering!

Image

Got a sweet little on there! (im on the right)

Image

Chicken Arm? Still having the same problems!!

Image

I got a little ride.. !

Image

me now bored catching anything, and my friend just to the left (well his board anyway!)

Then he went in! And The waves were all mine :D Me coming in from a day surfing!!

Image

Me and my friend prepared for a new day surfing!! (Im on the right)

Image

Eventually he got a wetsuit and we were set! Every morning I would go for an early surf to catch the good water, then go in with my friend to help him along alittle lol!
Well was really good, couple of seals etc, but all in all a great trip!! Would go again

After a winter of almost constant offshores, spring is coming and I felt the first gentle onshores of spring.
I'd forgotten how easy it was to paddle into a wave with a gentle breeze helping you on, and with a wave that breaks before its a vertical wall (its hell in Australia, I tell you, hell).

Somehow managed to find a peak to myself at Maroubra (or at least only sharing it with people below me in the pecking order, which is a once in a lifetime experience at maroubra) and had some cracking waves. Short rides, but a lot of fun :D

had a really enjoyable session in the bay around noon today. managed to catch the clean swell for a couple of hours before the cross-shore wind picked up throughout the day making it progressively choppier.

with the tourist season coming to an end, and most locals at work today, a friend and i had it all to ourselves :D fantastic!

just back from a week of solid swell and offshores in sligo... never had a full week like it before... all day everyday...
surfed reefs for the second time (first time successfully), way too big the first day (last tuesday) 8ft+ with a few bigger bombs rolling through... couldn't get on anything though.. rolled hard a few times...
second day was a little overhead (5ft ish) caught a few... well chuffed!!
more experienced friends said it's a very forgiving wave for a reef... still the most challenging wave i've ever tried..

swell settled down a bit after that and had 5 days on perfect beaches... really seeing improvement after a few good consistent days...
