Advancements in technology

Postby Danh » Mon Dec 17, 2007 1:00 pm

This question goes out to pro and beginners surfers alike. Do you think that the advancements in technology, in other words the change in the way a surfboard is manufactured (mass produced), has it in some way tainted the whole concept of surfing and what people find attractive about it?

it's all to do with business :!:

if you can manufacture something more cheaply, then business' do it.

it's not necessarily right but it's the way it is :!:

I think that anyone that liked surfing because it was 'alternative' was being a bit silly in the first place.

However I also recognise that people that have been surfing a while (over 10 years?) may have their enjoyment spoilt due to the large numbers of people taking it up and the cultural change this has caused. Especially in areas where surfing is 'easier'.

In the UK the climate and water temperatures put many people off, however in Oz/US I can see it being more of a problem.
