Need a new board

Postby Broosta » Sun Oct 10, 2004 8:48 pm

Just went in for a desperate 2hr sesh this arvo. It was really windy onshore and I surfed alone cos its a sectret spot and none of my mates could be arsed. Pretty average started 2ft then built with the tide to 3-4ft sets cleanish on the face but looked a blown out gnarl mess! Took a good few beatings then called it a day walked to my car and was just checking the board for dings a then noticed the centre fin missing along with the fcs plugs and the tail even more battered than it was! Gutted! :( Really thinking I shouldn't have bothered now!

Now I've decided to get a new board and get my old one repaired to keep as a back up. Is anyone reading from Newquay or have you been to the surfshops there recently? My mate reckons the Lost boards in the Newquay shops are really xxxxx quality compared to mine (as mine was!) so can anyone confirm this?

Cheers Phil, just had a look at his site.
I think it seems a bit of a gamble if I went for one of his boards. I don't seem to get on well with english boards. I had a Semmens which rode like xxxxx, I had a Roger Cooper Sick Pig - it sucked, I had my Maurice Cole repaired at the Ocean Magic factory and I noticed after I got home (7 hr drive) the twat put the fin in wonky!
All the other boards I've had except a Tris Surfboard were non-english and rode loads better. The best were Maurice Cole and Lost, followed by Al Merrick.
What I really want is something as close to my broken Lost which is a Performance Shortboard 6'2" x 18 3/8 x 2 5/16 shaped by Brian Bulkley.
So anyone know where in England sells Lost, Maurice Cole or even Rusty boards? I don't really want a Hawaiian or Aussie brand like HIC, Aloha, T&C, Nev, Hot Buttered etc. cos I don't ride those types of waves very often.

Any help on this one much appreciated :) .

Cheers,

Broosta.

Broosta,
Drop me a PM and I'll hook you up with a guy who's been recently quoted ina couple of mags as making the best shortboards in the UK at the moment. His prices are good too.

Well Ive always gotten my boards shaped by Mac down at Tunnel Vision Surf in Newquay, ace boards they really are: http://www.tvsurfshop.com

Theres the site, although I think your already set on a non-british board!
Hope this helps if you decide to change your mind!
Good Luck.

Cool, nice one Chilee :) I'll check em out. I'm not set in stone on my non-brit slant  .
I have been to the shop a few years ago and found the guys really cool, they leant me a fish to try for the day - didn't really get on that well with it tho, but that was cos it was a fish.

Cheers,

Broosta.
