Fins

Postby Sillysausage » Thu Sep 06, 2007 7:46 pm

I recently watched this video on surfline, and they were discussing whether anyone could win a pro even with a different fin setup to a thruster, so either single fins, twin fins, quads or even 5 fin set ups.

personally i think it is possible, but not many people will try it, which means it's not likely it will happen, what do you think?

One of the HObgoods won a Pro event in the US on a quad set up, so yes.

CJ won a WQS event and they were discussing WCT events. It was a pretty interesting video.

Mick Fanning surfed a recent comemorative event involving MR, Rabbit, Tom Carroll, Shaun Thompson and many more golden oldies. He (Fanning) represented former Australian Champ Micheal Peterson and was cranking some huge airs and simply ripping on a retro single fin design.
Stretch's 4 fin design seems to get good credo's too.... This sport is always evolving and experimenting..

But when it comes down to it all the pro's on the asp world tour use the standard 3 fin thruster set-up for their asp tour events.

Competitors could have won contests on quads years ago.. Just that it took a Mavericks big wave contest for the world to wipe away the sleep form there eyes... and if the guy had come second...nighty night.
Now we have all the shapers jostleing for position in the Quad line. 99% of them had always snubbed their noses at them and in the past, never got them right anyway. Now the majority still don't have them right and there a strange reason why some have just magically started to get the quads working... just a couple of clicks and..voila!.
For an insight into why go to http://mckeesurf.com/brucemckee/multisystem.htm
and for a in depth story on the parallel world to the Thruster click

I look forward to some feedback. Cheers.M

...from their eyes... whoops, still got the sleep in mine.. Forgot to mention that there are some very open minded and humble shapers out there who have been great correspondents to all my ravings, so please forgive any perceived bitterness on my half. Tchao.
