Where do you live? There are other/better places to surf in the UK.

Dude, I had 3 surf lessons in 3 days when I started, on the 4th day I was so F!"£$d I couldn't even walk. Everything hurt. And I was in shape.
That was 6 months ago.
Now if I surf first thing in the morning I warm up for maybe 3 minutes and thats it no stretching before or after. If I have a session other that Dawn patrol I dont warm up at all, and neither do the guys and girls (mostly girls actually) I surf with. Just straight in and paddle through to the line up,and normally it's quite a paddle as its a rippin reef break we surf at.

In Exeter. It's a bout 1 1/2 hours drive each way. North Devon is probably closer but the roads aren't as nice apparently and probably take just as long. Newquay is dual carriageway nearly all the way :)

My upper arms utterly killed after the first lesson, but that's partly because I hadn't exercised properly for ages. Goes without saying that it's worth it, though!

Pre surf warm up = Wake at 5 am S,S,Shave, cup of tea and a big fatty = increased heart rate. Drive to beach = increased awarness, another fatty, Getting into wetty and walk 1 mile co`s tides out = k`nackered.
Little stretch = bend over to do up leash. Go surf

First time I saw a guy stretching before they surfed I nearly p'ed my trunk laughing so hard. I've never stretched, never really hurt a muscle or such from surfing and still get a kick out of seeing people stretch. Worx for many I guess, I've never, never will.

Stretching is just posing on the beach IMO. If there's waves, go out there and ride them, straight away.

I stretched in my first lesson but next time I went surfing on my own I didn't bother and wasn't too bad the next day. In fact, it wasn't any worse than the day after my lesson!

first time i went with my bro-in-law i was fine. went florida last year in just boardies and got chest rash and bruises, cuts but the waves were pretty rough. then had a lesson in new zealand and i was completely knackered after it, had a 12 foot board and carrying it back to the dudes house for just 10 mins nearly killed  then went croyde last bank holiday weekend surfed from 10-1, 1-4 and was fine but i go the gym every week anyway

First time i went surfing, the next day my shoulders and arms killed, and only one other time (when the surf was far to big for my experience and i just kept on getting mullered) did i feel like id been in a scrum or something the next day. I don't usually warm up but dont know whether its cos some of the beaches i go involve like a 10 minute trek on soft sand carrying boards and all or what?

Getting into my 4/3 with batwing, boots & gloves is enough of a workout for me anyday.

Was out 2 hours yesterday , thats after a weekend of heavy gardening, bloody knackered , glad to see my desk at work for once. Tho that'll wear off quick, its a glourious day outside.

first time i went out, my 7'0" hit me in my noggin.
then i got cut by my fins a couple times. i was dizzy when i got out, like i couldn't walk to my car at all. my neck was just burning even though i put sunscreen, and my feet hurt like hell.. i'm seriously thinking about getting booties.
