Board Help needed

Postby kieran » Tue Jan 13, 2004 1:04 pm

Hi this is a great site

Basically ive been surfing a year now on bic 7"9 can quite happily go down the line both ways using an angled take off and bottom turn. No cutbacks yet though.
Im 6"2 and 13 stone and was thinking of dropping down to a fat 6"10 at 19" wide
Am i jumping the gun here its driving me nuts
Should i not drop down so far and go for a 7" or something larger
(no pun intended) but how much difference does a couple of inches make
in this situation
plus if anyone has got any advice on the manufacturer i would be most grateful.
Thanks to anyone who replies

A change of board required

Hi Keiran,
It's always nice to be considering a new board. For your size and weight a 6'10'' sounds OK. If you are surfing less than 1 day a week you should be looking at at least 20'' wide and 2 1/2 thick, and probably and anything up to 7'4''
If you are surfing more than 1 day a week you can go a little thinner and less wide - no smaller than 6'8'' x 19 1/4 x 2 /12 or you will struggle.

thanks for the advice surf patrol. Just like everyone who has to work and surf my chances of getting waves at the moment are pretty much only at weekends. But when it gets lighter i only live 20mins drive from tynemouth. Its probably going to be the 6'10 at 20inch
