Getting a board in Costa Rica

Postby mcsos88 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 5:22 am

I will be heading down to CR for 3 weeks in August. I am thinking of staying in Jaco/Hermosa for the first week or so and then head over to Mal Pais/Santa Teresa.
I used to ride a JS 6'1 X 18 1/4 X 2 5/16 squash when I was 170lbs.
I am 6'1 188lbs(lean) now. I am planning to buy a used board in Jaco. What dimensions do you guys recommend for waist to +1 overhead beach and reef breaks? Looking for something that turns well, will give me speed on smaller waves, but enough rocker for hollower breaks.
For those that have been to CR, know any good surf shops or local shaper in the Jaco area? How did you like CR?

Cheers in advance! :D

In the Jaco area, if you want new, or nearly new, Carton Surfboards is a good local shaper, and if you want brand name stuff like Surftech, Channel Islands, M10, etc, go to W.O.W. Surf, they have a good selection. There are dozens of surfshops in Jaco, look around you will find what you want.
