Surfers and wildlife

Postby surf patrol » Sun Feb 29, 2004 7:21 am

I don't think worried is the right term - perhaps wary is a better one. Probably the biggest (wildlife) worry for a surfer is sharks. What you have to keep in mind is just how rare shark attacks are. Shark attacks are rare and if you are surfing with 20 other people you then already have a 1 in 20 chance that even if a rare shark attack did occur it is still pretty unlikely that it will be you. Then you have to think about all those stingers, sea snakes, killer whales .....
There are things to be more wary of when surfing - knocking yourself out, getting caught in a rip and being dragged out to sea etc.
Just be wary and surf safely.

What does anyone else think?
