New kind of boards

I had an idea... What if, a styrafoam stufboard (un-glassed) could be prouduced, would it be signifacantly cheaper? Does anyone know anything about molding styrafoam? Like as rentaboards, just you never give em back? anyone get it? Like when you go somewhere you have waht could almost be a disposabale surfboard to use for a week or so when your on vacataion to some place. This is all just an idea, but does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Ive been thinking about new board production latley, and thats one thing I thought up. They could be safeish too becaue their not hard...

Or, what if someone made like a snap together plastic board. Anyone think that would work

I know neither of these would be that high quality or performance, but their just ideas for "disposable surfboards"

good idea but they wont be much good for the environment, how about if you made them recyclable?

The plastic anit a bad idea, but you just have to make it worth it for the comppanies to do somehing like that (i.e. make it cost a bit of money). The starfoam one will never work, its way too weak and will probably break on the first wipeout.

I have an idea for a board... and im kinda reluctant to give up the idea but... what about a helium board, if surffoam is permeable, then fill a board with helium and it will become incredibly light, and if the helium leaks out, now you have a regular board.

helium expands when hot like most gas so wouldnt that lead to rather alot of problems i belive the future of surf design is in carbon type boards, some one in cornwall bulid a totaly organic surfboard using resin from plants or trees or some thing maybe in a few years time when oil becomes rare this will be the way to go, or maybe go back to using balsa wood boards, who knows

yeah but over time and how long does your avrage glassed board last not all that long few years at the most if you surf daily

For me it should last 10 years...

well i would rather a board that decomposes over time than a foam board that ends up in some land fill some where
