Injury

Postby keef » Wed Mar 14, 2007 7:56 pm

er, probably not the most favourite subject. Any one broken a rib? Got a nice new board recently, first outing managed to land on it a bit too hard, and broke rib on right hand side. :(

seems to be taking AGES to heal, and rib cage distorted now. Any one done similar??

Yesterday I dinged my board and elbow. My board is drying right now and should be alright. :D

thanks dude, it's not as bad as it sounds, just hurts, and has kinda distorted my six pack, which is annoying as it took about a million sit ups to get.

Just wondered if ribs heal back straight or whether its gonna stay distorted.

I suppose they have to go back to normal otherwise your frame is going to collapse on the weak side of your torso. And if your well ripped then its probably going to pull your skin about. Might hurt but probably you will back surfing in no time. :)

Rib injuries can happen a lot. I had the same thing happen last summer when I wasn't wearing a wetsuit or rash guard. They seem to take a long time to heal, so I suggest you wrap it in bubble wrap or something similar if you go out again soon.

I would make sure that it heals right so you dont have to have it re-broken. My friend had to have his re-broken because it didnt heal straight.

I fractured a rib while teaching my sister to surf (she lost control of her board and it hit me in the ribs). The doc said all I could do was rest it for about 10 weeks.

Well...about 4 weeks later the surf was around 5 foot and although my rib was still sore I went out. Got mashed on a wave and re-fractured it.

I then took the docs advise and waited about 10 weeks before going out again.

So, all you can do is rest it and it should heal (maybe get it checked out too, just incase - but it will take ages before it heals and feels better).
