Surfboard Road Kill

Postby ceweal » Mon Jan 01, 2007 8:36 am

Here's why you should double or triple check your knots when tying your boards to your cars.

This all happened at 4 in the morning while we were driving down the expressway. We were all abruptly woken up so seeing my board get run over repeatedly by trailer trucks felt like a dream.

Goodbye DHD board, I don't think I can ever replace you! I kept that little piece of the tail that broke off.

Noooooo!

My worst nightmare, thankfully my boards are now normally, lovingly placed in the back of my van.

You need to get some ratchet tie downs.

Thanks for the sympathies... the locals at the surf spot we went to asked for it. Said they could use the broken parts to fix dings and whatnots. Surf materials are hard to come by where we're from so we make do with whatever we have.

Yeah we were pretty thankful that our boards didn't hit any other cars or cause a huge pileup on the expressway. What a bad rep that would make for surfers! Imagine the headline: "Major Pileup on Highway Due to Surfers' Loose Boards".

We had to do some crazy car-dodging moves to retrieve our boards. I knew practicing all those sharp turns and cutbacks were good for some reason.
