Some Questions...

Postby WaveBlondeBabe » Mon Feb 09, 2004 1:19 am

Hey everyone....well spring break is coming up so i am planning to buy a board soon so that i can learn. the only problem is is that i know nothing about surfing or about what kind of board i should get. I live in miami so i know there is like no waves here, however my cusin tells me that she goes up to ft. lauderdale b/c they get some waves. I know the waves are small too. So i need to know what type of board i should get...im 5'3 and 112lbs.....i dont know if my size has anything to do with the type of board i should buy. So if anyone can help me...please do. and if you have any information on surfing to give me...like terms like heat and stuff like that, dont hold back. i'd really appreciate it.
Thanx

Hi Mandy,

Miami isn't that bad for waves, unless there is an approaching Hurricane. I learned to surf at Destin Beach area, Fort Walton area. I know Surf Patrol will tell you to first check the main page, I did, and it was extremely helpful. When Learning you want a longer board, it helps catch those small waves. I did spring break at Ft. Lauderdale and the surf there is pretty good. I was at Flight School in Vero Beach only an hour North of there and the surf was also good. Good luck, and keep checking these pages because there are a lot of great people with tons of surf knowledge to give you. Have fun Surfing.

Vitopilot is right, I have just added a beginners surfboard guide - check it out - https://surfing-waves.com/beginner_surfboard.htm
I hope this guide is useful, come back if there is anything we have missed or you feel that you need som further info, it may be a chance for me to add some more information to those pages. There are lots of guides and information on the main site so go an have a look - just click on the Surfing Waves banner at the top and this will take you through to the homepage.
Good luck with your surfing, see you back here soon.
