Competition

Postby Inletsurfer » Fri Jul 30, 2004 8:23 pm

I am interested in competing in some of the local events. Id be in the Jr. Boys division 17u. I am not sure about the competition though. What type of tricks can these kids do? None of my friends compete...some are interested but I have been asking around and nobosy knows.

I can do frontside and backside snaps, floaters, some nice cutbacks...I can do a few grabs but i only can get a few feet over the lip. My aerial skills are definitly lacking but im working on it.

Am I not ready to compete yet? I am worried about getting blown away because word travels fast on the Jersey shore.

Dude you can win a contest with classic skills instead of the finess of today's surfers. If you can put some power behind your cutbacks and make your roundhouses look sweet youl be on top. Just stay on the wave as long as you can. My first comp i would alwase get off the wave cause it became all whitewash but that screwed my score. I cought about 5 more waved then everyone else and I still got screwed. Also be carefull cause favoritism will win other people alot so it takes time. You most likely won't get 1st in your first comp no matter what but just keep it up.
