went to suss it out this weekend and ive decided it has to be done. It was only a 3 star bore this weekend and nearly all the surfers i saw didnt manage to catch it but it looked pretty good in some places (even tho it wasnt rideable in some other places i saw which are supposed good take off points)

now i just need to borrow a huge pop out plank off someone and get ready for the big ones in spring.

being the biggest tides in 25 years i would have thought the bore would have been huge, i wouldnt mind to try it one day, long way to travel just to screw the take off and miss the wave though

nope, something to do with moon cycles or something, the biggest recent one was 1998 and they go in a 9 year cycle so the ones next spring should be bigger, theres also lots of other factors affectting it like rainfall and atmospheric pressure which werent spot on this weekend (ive been doing my research - can you tell :D )

i know people whove been (including my brawd) but ive never been before. Where we first went (newham) it looked pretty rideable but i was a bit dissapointed - just a foot and a half of whitewash with some kayaks and one surfer going along slowly, i thought "cant see what all the fuss is about", at the next spot it was an unbroken wave and no-one caught it, but the next 2 spots we made it too see it it was much bigger, louder, and more impressive. Seemed to be about 4-5ft on the face as it came round some of the bends and much quicker, definitly worth going to see even if you dont surf it, even saw a whole tree about 2ft thick being carried along behind it and a whole lot of thick logs.

What suprised me where the crowds watching, i was expecting a handfull of people on the banks but there was literally hundreds there, and all rushing to their cars to try and speed off to the next spot in time to see it again.

i would have left them there

sounds like it could be a good laugh though, ive heard stories of a few people geting rides a few miles long, dont think my legs could handle it for that long or the walk back to the car

by "personal watercraft" i assume they are reffering to the idiots on jetskis who where chasing the bore trying to jump off the waves behind it? I hope they busted them as jetskis are prohibited anyway in the part of the river where the bore is rideable. muppets.

its allways the jet skiers that ruin it for everyone else though, think about being hit by one riding the bore though could do some serious injury

yep, i dont think itll be long before they have to bring in some kind of license for jetskis, not that thatll stop the wallies who ride them.
