What type of surfboard for a newbie?

Postby kellyslaterreincarnated » Fri Jul 09, 2004 10:06 pm

Hey everybody. Im 200 pounds, 6' 2 inches and dont know much about surfing . . .yet. My friends have been surfing for about a summer, read one magazine and think they pretty much know everything but sadly dont. I have surfed a couple of time with them but really wanna take it seriously and catch some serious air. I live in Long Island and surf at Robert Moses or Long Beach. I would also like to know where a guy liek me can buy a board on a limited budget seeing as Im no donald trump. Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it-

No idea what the waves are like there (probably better than central london anyhow). My mates been surfing for a couple of weeks and is absolutely loving a 9ft longish board.

The pop outs are alright for beginners but you'll out grow them and still be £150 down. Better to save up for a bit and buy a nicer board. It all depends how you want to surf.

The waves don't get too big here. Usually a 2'-3' swell. I have a 7'9" but I'm just staring and I'm, about 5'11". Umm, where do you live? If anywhere near babylon go to Rick's, Bunger, or Special Sauce...

Rick's in E. Islip- ricksactionsportsandsurfshop.com

Bunger in Babylon- bungersurf.com

Special Sauce in Bayshore- specialsauce.com

Hope this helps.
