 "PapaWoolacombe" is correct. Anyhting over 3 ft and all the weekenders get hammered.

Anyway this whole stand-up business, dking is basically a hybrid surfing stance anyway. okay its not exactly the same but attempting to stand up fully on a body board with fins is almost impossible(i have seen a kid do this). To be honest its a lot harder than you think to pop up with fins dont assume that just because you can surf you will get it quickly.

Its quite amusing that people here go whoooo yahoooo etc when a surfer gets a decent ride and cutbacks. But when a bodyboarder pulls off some hard core moves like an ars and theres dead silence

Bodyboarders give surfers respect its a shame the opposite cant be said. I think the reason why's is understandable because 90% of bodyboarders are just riding polystyrene and dont have a clue what they are doing

well thats quite simple, as a surfer i have no idea if a move i see a BBer doing is tricky or basic, and theres not a lot of style going on to judge it by. Another example is skating, i went to a skate comp the other week and my mates who skate would go mad cheering some trick even tho to me it looked exactly the same as all the other tricks the guy was doing apparently it was some super-difficult flippy thing or something whatever.

I can appreciate surfers riding cos i know what its like myself and know what their doing, and whether it was done with style. Maybe i could appreciate a deep barrel on a BB or something but we dont getr them here often and besides most of the BBers i see do nothing apart from ride in a straight line, not even as much as a belly spin.

You have a point there. Yeah the problme is there isnt enough decent bodyboarders around most surfers in the line up can actually well surf the wave. Most bodyboarding in the line up catch a wave and go straight or death drop  (side note im amazed they survive some of the plunges i have seen) It would be nice to get a cheer every now and then when i have just pulled off a 1080 in dk position

Started out bodyboarding when younger and yes it was/is very fun. Especially in big sucky waves. However, progressed to surfing and get more satisfaction out of it due to learning curve, sense of acievement and amount of speed etc.

I've had a bash at bodyboarding a few times just for something to do really, but now I'm getting more serious about water sports I wouldn't touch one if I had the option of a surfboard.

As said above, BB's get muddled up with polystirene tourists (come on, we've all been there) so maybe the proper BB's deserve a little more credit. Then again, I haven't really seen many BB's pulling off many moves when I've been in the water...

Hello, by the way

Its interesting that this has come up.. (the whole not seenign very many out) I think that additionally got to do with the fact that serious BB'ers surf differnet breaks than the majority of standups.

Take the UK for example, go to any wide sandy beach and it'll be dominated by loggers and shorties... go to any small cover with beach dumps wedges, boulder and solid reefs and you'll find mostly boogers. This is defently the case in Kernow but not so much other areas in as greater numbers but thats down to the whole population numbers again.

Too true particually if those gnarley dumpers are big gnarley dumpers  you wont see a surfer in signt.

In san diego during decemember (any diegens here will remember those days) most the surfers pushed out my local spot and headed out to where the waves were holding better. At my local patch there were was 1 surfer and three bbers including me. (side note that surfer was one brave guy he took an epic wipeout and still carried on surfing)

Mostly bbers have more fun when the surf is dumpy and closing out because we can still drop in.

Another reason bbing is sooo fun is that we get tubed much much easier and every wave is overhead :P (that is when you are on ya belly  )

I only will go bbing now when the swells are pretty decent its more fun surfing when it small and im not that good at surfing so i wont be tackling any big swells any time soon

A little more credit?

I'll say!

Try watching "Fun Stepping Up" or some of the other great BB flix.

Gutsy stuff indeed.

I also standup on a 9ft log which I happen to ride better than most of them which grips there xxxxx.so ride what you want enjoy what you do and tell yer mates to do one.

From experience, spongers tend to think the rules don't apply to them, or maybe it's because the way they are in the water they don't see us coming down the line before they drop in.

Whichever it is, they can be a menace to themselves and us surfers.

There have been a small few that I surf with that are ok and actually pay attention.

Hello this is Sean using Ellie's username :)

The bloke we saw on sunday when I was with Lola was amazing, he was doing corkscrews through the lip of the wave

Put my years of bodyboarding to shame.
