Localism

Hi guys,
Just wondered if any of you who have had the pleasure of surfing here in Tenerife have had problems with surfing localsim whilst here?

By the way just read an amazing book called ''searching for Captain Zero'' it is well worth reading if you love to travel, surf and laugh. If anyone does read it or has read it Email me and let me know what you thought.

Ozzie ;-)

I have never surfed in Tenerife but have heard that the localism is really bad - i'm also interested in hearing if things are as bad as the rumours say. Anyone been?

Hi Surf Patrol,
I actually live and grew up here in Tenerife and was interested in an outside perspective.
As I see it from the ''inside'' it is not quite as bad as it seems (I surf the breaks in and around las Americas). There is one spot where things can get a bit ugly which is Las Palmeras (sometimes known as Spanish Left) and I wouldn't leave any valubles on the beach or in your car on show even in town unless you know a few of the boys. The north of the island is a whole other story and the boys up there are nasty unless you have any contacts there. If anyone wants advice on surfing down here send me an Email. Personnaly I have never had any major dramas but I keep hearing stories from visiting surfers and wondered if there was any substance to them.

Oz. ;-)
