So i was watching thay show Laguna Beach and i saw the guys surfing on the shore, like on the sand near the shore, it looked like they were on some small board, it wasnt a surfboard. what kind of board is it? it looked really fun, gliding on the wet sand

Skim boards are kinda fun if you are into that kinda thing. It's like riding a bike with training wheels kinda thing. You get to feel standing on a board gliding over water which is pretty cool. Good way to prepare for surfing. Alot of instructors start their students off on skim boards.

You only stay up for about 3 - 5 seconds due to the fact that how fast you run and your forward momentum is what propells you, not a wave. If you run off shore though and nail a wave you can jump it pretty good.

You should be able to get these types of boards just about anyway they sell sporting goods. They are pretty popular. Go to walmart.
