surfing with near sighted vision

i was wondering how people surf with near sighted vision. its hard to do a sport like that wearing glasses or contacts. id like to hear from other surfers that do it.

well i don't have that problem, but my sister does and i've been thinking of ways for here to get around this. i've seen gogles that people can get perscription lenses for. or get some "Drew Cary" glasses and get a band to fit the back of your head to hold them in place. i've a few people wearing things of the sort. well good luck.

Sorry nicksinif, I dont have an answer to your question but im sure its possible...anything is possible, the other day I was sitting out the back at my local and a dude with one arm paddled out (no jokes please .... he wasnt going round in circles).
He caught as many waves as anyone else out that afternoon and he absolutely ripped. Perfect example of desire overcoming disablity and a reality check when people (me included) bitch about how much hard work it takes to get out to the lineup with two good arms.

I just keep my eyes closed when I'm under water.

Same here, I've only lost one contact while surfing.

Ok, I'm a bit vain. I wear shades when surfing. I had a pair of wraparound fake oakleys that gripped nicely - even when I came off HARD, they stayed on, if you know what I mean.

Apart from that you can get shade-savers - an elasticated band that attaches to the arms and holds the back of your head, I bought one after the aforementioned shades ended up on the bottom of croyde bay after hitting my head on my board... :oops:

Ok, sorry, the point of that is, if I can wear shades you should damn well be able to get prescription lenses for wraparounds or just buy a shadesaver (About £5)

i wear contacts cuz im blind as a bat without them....so long as you dont have your eyes open when you take a wave to the face or your head under water...but other then that no biggie

I always wear contacts while surfing. I don't see anything if I don't. As long as you don't open your eyes under water, you are perfectly fine. Sometimes one of my contact got washed off. But still have the other contact. It's very rare to have both contacts washed off. It never happened to me yet.

Have you heard of Bethany Hamilton??? A girl had her arm bitten off by a shark in Hawaii and she surfs with one arm now.
