Sharks, kill them

Postby Cornisak » Sun Aug 29, 2010 2:57 pm

The title is a bit rough and horrible. But catchy. I really care for animals, but I have a problem with them killing us. Just as I love humans, I detest murderers.

I have had some thoughts about Sharks and how Fatal an shark attack can be and it can happen when you at least expect it.

I've looked for some, and i find out even one of the most common family surfing beaches in Australia has had an shark attack and the man died.
Even though its rare that a shark attack would happen, its always in my mind and i continue to feel uneasy about it.

How do the officials handle this?

I've have seen on one report of an death from shark attack, an poll questioning all visitors if they should Hunt down and kill the white shark. And for that you would vote for "Yes, it's an dangerous predator" or if you disagree it you would vote for this option. "No, the surfer invaded the sharks natural territory" and 85% and voted for "No, the surfer invaded the sharks natural territory" and 15% for "Yes, it's an dangerous predator"

Frankly, I think that's stupid. Invaded their territory? so the whole ocean including the beaches are the sharks territory and they may kill any humans that "invade" the ocean and we should do nothing?
No, sure they live in the ocean, but it is not that we are extinct sharks. They have an whole ocean. We are only using the ocean near land.

Here's an good example. If I "invaded" my neighbors "territory", he has the right to kill me? NO of course not!
But yes, humans and animals. We are smart, and can tell apart good from evil. Animals follow instinct.
But we kill and slaughter tons of innocent animals for food, almost all of them are no predators and oppose no threat to us, and fishing its no question, its to much of it. If we have to kill animals for food, which also is no question, its a natures circle, why don't kill and get food from those who kill us? Buy some fish stakes.
I am 100% for hunting down all dangerous Sharks. Many humans, Japan for example, hunt Whales for food or as they would say "research" and its legal in their country, even tho they slay the whales instantly on the ship as soon as they capture one and slice it up. That's not research.(If you don't believe me watch Whale Wars, Americans fighting Japans trying to stop illegal whale hunting)

Killed by human, its almost the same as an accident. Killed by human, they murderer doesn't deserve to live.
We protect our early deaths from humans, but not from animal predators. Its the same result for us! The animals don't give a rats *** about who dies, neither do the animals.

Make it safer for us to surf. If killing animals is a problem with people, then just look on the meat your eating, or you the fur you are wearing, you have no idea what friendly animals suffer and how the torture is for them before they die. Its not a clean instant death. For example, all the beef from cows, very many of the companies that provide us that meat, hang the cows upside down on a belt that just keeps moving. Kinda like how bottles of soda is made, just that they hang down, and they just slice the throat and let them die a slow death. Why? Because that's much easier and efficient, cheaper then using a rifle for every single cow.
And they want to save sharks?

I think i have clearly made my point.
Another thing, has it never been possible to have like a giant fence around the beaches that goes all the way down to the bottom of the sea connected to the ocean. As long as we surfer need it to go. And keep boats out of there, and sharks cant get in, that's a solution that profits both, tho than we have limits if you want to go behind that fence.
Sounds kinda stupid. But some uses small fence to keep jellyfish and other fish, and sharks out of the beach. But It has never been made as a very huge humongous fence. Why I don't know, maybe it wouldn't handle the pressure and all the waves, but I know its possible.

Clearly, I want everyone thoughts on this.

If u detest animals killing humans so much then you should concentrate on mosquitos then as its estimated that due to the malaria they carry the mosquito bite has killed half the humans that have ever lived! KS

im sorry but this thread is complete bull based on paranoia and fear without rational thinking.

As KS says, more people die from malaria from mosquitos every day than sharks kill in a year, and rabies infections from stray dogs kill more each year than sharks, does that mean your going to go and slaughter every dog without a collar on because theres a small possibility it may kill someone? whilst you are at it, go kill every african lion because they kill 70 people a year, 55-65 more than sharks each year, or every elephant, as they kill 500 people a year, 480-495 a year more than sharks

more sharks are killed every year by humans than humans by sharks Each year there are about 50 to 70 confirmed shark attacks and 5 to 15 shark-attack fatalities around the world. Between 20 and 100 million sharks die each year due to fishing activity, according to data from the Florida Museum of Natural History's International Shark Attack File.

and if you are talking about cruelty to animals for human consumtion, what about the sharks that have their fins cut off and are just thrown back in the water to drown after their "useful" parts are removed

sharks have been given such a bad reputation through piss poor portrails in movies, hollywood and the media. As a Dive instructor, ive been up close with many different types of shark, including 4 of the top 5 most dangerous sharks, the bull, hammerhead, tiger and lemon, and have no injuries, no close calls, no near death experiences...sure a couple of hairy moments but more likely my over active imagination than and actual aggresive action by the shark.

if you choose to play in the ocean, you accept the risk of drowning, hitting reef, getting taken out by the rips, jelly fish stings and shark attacks, if you dont want any of these risks, move to an area without them or dont go in the water, its all part and parcel of being a surfer. deal with it.

sharks are a big part of the ecosystem and desrve to be protected, beach nets dont work and end up killing all kinds of marine life like turtles, dolphins, seals etc....and cost thousands to maintain, and any surf spot that they then put shark nets up around would A: possibly ruin the wave, by adding posts and fences that trap sand and alter bottom topography B: turn all protected surf spots into a swimmers paradise because of the feeling of safety C: kill all the local wildlife

i would also like www.surfing-waves.com administrators to rename the title of this thread, as its pro animal cruelty and against the nature of 90% of the surfers out there.

I think to make amends for your poorly thought out, grossly ignorant, and downright stupid post you should accompany us all on a surfing-waves trip to J-Bay where you have to sit 50 yards outside the line-up and flail about like a wounded animal while we have a surf. When you stop splashing, I'll know it's a bit hairy and time to come in.

If you do surf, no one really expects you to love sharks, but you have to appreciate their presence there. It's nature. They don't deliberately wait out there in the line up for a human snack, most of their attacks are by mistaken identity, they've evolved to attack their prey quickly and stealthy, having to make quick decisions to get a meal.

The day the sharks come out of the ocean and start coming into our homes and hurting people, then maybe I'll consider your proposal.

Cornisak,
Don't know who you are or what your agenda is, but here are the thoughts you requested from me.

1) There is no such word as, "dangourus."
2) Your command of grammar and ability to develop a logical argument are atrocious.
3) By your logic, "We are smart, and can tell apart good from evil. Animals follow instinct," my dog a) must be smart because she definitely recognizes good and evil (and can even communicate this to me), or b) is human because she is smart, can tell good from evil, and only somtimes follows instinct.
4) You just might be a kook or simply another lame student looking for help with his homework, school project, thesis, dissertation, etc.

I still say bring back the T-Rex haha! I don't hate sharks nor do I like them. We kill a dog if it only bites once, Hmmmm, Why? Because it's on land?
Anyway.......
How many people are killed everyday around the world by other people?
How many people are killed everyday by Sharks around the world?
Now, who do you fear?
I fear the two legged sharks on land HAHA!
Go surf! If you see schools of bait fish a shark may be near. If you see seals one can be close, birds diving, dolphins or maybe nothing at all but just keep a look out for a fin or shadow if your worried. If you see these things paddle in or around others in the water.
GO SURF!

More people get killed in car accidents driving to and from the beach, same sort of blood loss, torn off limb injuries.
IMO put a fence around the beaches keep out everybody with a fear of sharks who is even thinking of surfing.

Don't even think of coming to Australia, sharks, crocodiles, death jelly fish, irakji jelly fish, sting rays, killer whales, top 10 deadly snakes and funnel web spiders. AAAAAAArgh

I get your fear — shark attacks are scary, even if rare. But I think killing them all isn't the answer. They act on instinct, not malice, and the ocean is their natural home. Better solutions might be improved monitoring, alert systems, or safer beach zones. Coexistence is tough, but necessary.
