Wetsuit Cleaner and or Conditioner?

I'm in my 2-3 year of surfing, and as winter approaches, it's time for a new wetsuit. I previously purchased Oneil's 3/2 Defender, which has a hole in the knee pad and several seams and threads coming up. I have used 2 wetsuit repair kits so far, and so far they seem to work very well, keeping down the threads that would come up, which definitely lengthens the life of the suit.

What is everyone's opinion on wetsuit cleaners? Do they extend the life of the product or only eliminate the odor? Talking with a couple of people i have met in the water they seem to think they are just a scam.
