Can I fit a longboard on my car...?

Postby Aimeeeliza01 » Tue Apr 20, 2021 5:31 pm

For a while I've desperately wanted to get a longboard, probably somewhere between 9ft and 9'6, but I thought there's just no way I could drive with a board that size on my roof. What are the chances of me safely fitting a board that size on the roof of a 2004 2 door nissan micra?

Good roof racks and racket tie downs no worries only your local road regulations maybe!
Mini Coopers and VW beetles carried boards of that length easily!

You can fit a longboard on the roof of basically any car.

Your car is 12 feet long and a longboard will fit. I would worry about the wind and recommend tying it on a roof rack with fins forward.

I have a Nissan Extera and can put my 9’2” big wave gun in the car but the size and shape allows it to go between the headrests and the nose goes all the way to the front of the dashboard at the bottom of the front window. It’s a little uncomfortable to drive with it there but I only need to tolerate it for the 1 to 5 minutes that it takes to get to the beach
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Step #1- get out a measuring tape and check the interior dimension from dash top to rear gate.

Step #2 - fold down the rear seat and layback the passenger seat. Then measure from where the passenger foot compartment is to the rear gate.

If both show over 9 feet, then go to your local surf shop and tell the staff about your dilemma. I’m sure they won’t mind to put a rental 9’0” in your car to check, especially if that will mean a new board sale later on. At the shop I worked at we had those requests before.

Micra is 3 inches longer than my Mini. When necessary, I carry 9ft longboard on my Mini. Don't even use traditional rack or soft rack. Just some foam or rolled towels.
