I just started surfing, and for christmas, i got an 8'8" long board. I am 5'7" and 135 lbs, is this the appropriate size for me/ any tips? when i first started i could get up every time, now i feel like im digressing because i am always too forward or too far back on my board-

Hi JJ, welcome to Surfing Waves,

Sounds like Santa brought you an ideal surfboard for christmas. This should be great to get you started. As for digressing, there is allways an adjustment period when you get a new board - it will take a bit of time before you are really comfortable on it.
As for being too far forward/back on the board. Start on the board where you think you should be laying and make a mental note of the exact place. See what happens on the next wave then work out a new position from there. Keep doing this until you are happy with your positioning. Soon it will become second nature.

advice

well i know the problem.

to actually get the board in action especially the long board you need to tap down on the front when u take off (just pushing up to stand up does this alot of the time esp on shorter boards). straight after shuffle down to the back in a nice sturdy possition. ie balancing ure weight as well as making it easyer to stay on ie not loosing ure balance. Admin is rite it takes time and soon u'll learn it but just lay ure board out on beach or where ever and stand on it finding to most comfortable position then go throught the steps lying down pushing up then standing to that same position then go try it out for real. good luck
