Its been a while since I last wrote something here.

Im still surfing and out in water every weekends (that could change since the wife’s 5 month pregnant). A bit of update my surfing, I have gone past the point where I pearl most of the time. Wave catching rate has definitely gone up compared to last time I was here - going straight to the beach though.

Im currently mastering/learning the art of angled take-off, sometime I get it most of the time I don’t. When I say I don’t, either I got stuck in the lip as if the waves rolls under me, missed the wave completely or worst thrown over the wave.

Anyways, another question from me is/are:
During angle take off, how do yous usually dig the rail? Is it by pushing the inside rail or pulling the opposite rail up? Any other pointers on angled take-off?

You terminology may be different from others, but "Digging your Rail" is considered a bad thing. You may be describing "engaging the rail" or "setting your rail". At your level, you shouldn't be "grabbing rail" with your front hand on the outside rail to initiate your front side bottom turn. You should already be looking down the line even before you feet plant and hands release the deck. ( but use your peripheral vision to scan for others straight in front of you just in case you mess up )

when you do an angled takeoff, and you are looking down the line, the board wont be sitting flat against the wave face, it will actually already be at an angle (ie the board is flat to the 'ocean floor' but at an angle to the wave face). So the rail is 'automatically' engaged . If you want to put a little extra weight on the inside hand, that can help - but usually you do this naturally anyway to keep the board horizontal. In any case, most of the engagement happens after you pop up and lean into the face/weight the inside rail with your toes/heels.

this might help

No worries.

I will focus on “looking down the line” before/during pop up.

thanks
