I know in those areas far from the equator tide changes can cause extreme currents. I have heard that in certain topographical conditions such as a bay with a narrow opening that even boats can have trouble with the currents generated. It's good to be familiar with the tides and currents in the area you surf. Where I surf however it makes some difference but very little difference comparatively because tide changes are small.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
