Sandspit, Santa Barbara

Postby billie_morini » Mon Nov 21, 2016 2:36 am

Here's a moonlit photo from Thursday, 17 November 2016. It's at Santa Barbara's infamous Sandspit.

Backstory:
Following another exceptional dinner at Brophy Brothers dinner at the Santa Barbara marina, Surfing Waves forum mates, billie_morini and hyber, walked the breakwater to ease their expanded bellies. This was hyber’s first visit to Santa Barbara. Therefore, he was game for anything and everything.

At the end of the breakwater, billie is explaining to hyber that Sterns Wharf is just a short distance across the water (e.g., bright lights on left in photo). Hyber’s attention is totally fixed on two surfers riding long, gentle waves under the 2016 waning Super Moon. Hyper, whom has never been in Santa Barbara before, utters a one word question. “Sandpsit?” he asks. “Eureka!” exclaimed billie. “How did you know?” billie excitedly asked. Hyber relates he has seen videos and knows this wave only properly breaks in the biggest storms. Indeed, billie, relates when the storm is so strong that rain is driven sideways and the waves are crazy, the world’s best surfers materialize from thin air to ride the sincerely dangerous surf right in this normally calm harbor.

Look closely in the lower right hand corner to see the profile of one of the two surfers holding his board. No doubt, pure bliss for these two surfers.
