Storing wetsuit in a vacuum bag

Postby BaNZ » Mon Sep 05, 2016 9:39 am

One of those air tight bags where you suck out the vacuum as I'm bringing all 3-4 wetsuit in a suitcase and they take up too much space. Would it be bad for the wetsuit if I do that? As it sucks all the air out and compresses it.

It isn't good to get folds in neoprene if you can help it....folding it and crushing it down with a vacuum probably isn't the best for the flat parts, but definitely bad for all the edges that are folded......your suit will look like it has spiderwebs all over it and if really pressed the folds are crushed down and thinner in those spots. I used to do everything that I could not to ever fold my suits when I was diving.

Maybe you can just wear it on the plane to NY...... :)

Yeah when it is 30C+ in NY...I probably pass out before I get to the immigration. I once wore a wetsuit to a wedding as I was 1.5 hour late. Surf was good

But yeah now I recall that I use to roll the wetsuits up to prevent those spiderweb crease. I guess I'm just going to have to live with it. I'm such an idiot, I should've bought the wetsuits in NY and not in UK.

You don't have one of those?

I roll my wetsuits for storage and they get only a few wrinkles... not too bad. If you roll them over other clothing so you don't have to fold the sleeves flat against the body, or even stuff the limbs w/ some clothing in addition to wrapping around other center materials they might be ok-ish.

a hot steam and dry ironing fixes it beautifully, absolutely no spider webs at all, no iron only a black gooey messy that was the spider
