Beginner Help!

Postby Lv1004 » Sun May 22, 2016 12:30 am

I am 13 year old and I am only 90 lbs if that, I have always wanted to try surfing . This summer I am planning on going to go to a surf camp. I know that pros usually start surfing really young. Is it too late for me to actually become really good at surfing?

At your age you can become quite good at surfing, provided you get some good coaching and get as much water time as possible, laugh at your attempts and learn from your mistakes.
Nice starting point for your journey , enjoy thoroughly :!: :D

Water time and dedication are the keys - very good adult surfers (not pro level) probably surfed 3-5 times a week for most of their teen years. But that is no different to most sports.

But learning young as you are and regular practice (even if not 3-5 times per week) will make you good enough to hold your own in most line ups when you are older. You may not be a pro but you will be having fun

If you're planning on starting now, 13 is good enough for you to start working towards a pro surfing career, I hate to tell you this but most people change their dream jobs half way towards their goal, but if surfing is your passion then pro surfing is for you.
Surfing for me is just a hobby but since I've been a kid I've wanted to be a software engineer, 7 years later and I'm still going towards my dream so can you with surfing.

There are a few pros who started around your age but it is getting to where more and more pros have started at a younger age. It's not too late. Probably there are lots of surfers who surf well and started in their teens but the older you are the harder it will be to learn. The young mind is very plastic and learns lots of stuff easily
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
