Should I move to a shortboard?

I've been surfing for the past four months two times a week, and I'm consistently trimming and carving down
the line on shoulder high waves with my soft top 6'6 surfboard.
My brother got for his 13th birthday a 6'1 short-board and the condition of the surfboard is very good.
the surfboard measurements are:
Length:6'1
Width: 18 inch
Thickness:1.1 inch

I will replace the leash and the traction pad too.

I'm 13 years old, 155 cm and 5 foot and 100 pounds.

If it's your brothers, can't you just borrow it for a week and see how it goes?

Nothing seems to be wrong with the traction pad, no need to replace it.

Just try your brother's 6'1", then you will realize that not only the reduction in Length, but Thickness of the rail and Width of the board makes a big big difference.

You and your brother are both 13....at the same time? If you are anything like I was your mother will buy you a board to get you out of the house too....

What is the question then? Get out and surf your board! If you have difficulty you will know that it is to be expected. I reckon you'll figure it out if you have some basics down already.

You need special calipers to measure thickness because the "thickness" of a board is taken at the center, not the rail. I wouldn't worry about it. Just try the board out and see how it goes.
