Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies.. And I did happen to take the board out yesterday for a run, and not that I doubted any of you but it was just as everyone said it would be. Popping up was a task unlike anything else. Lol.. Trying to prevent the nose of the board diving into the wave was crazy. I did happen to ride a few waves but found out very quickly that the balancing and agility of a short board is crazy as well. Common sense told me this before hand but it wasn’t until I found out first hand when I realized what these things could do.. But I enjoyed it for the most part and looking forward to heading back and trying to get the hang of it.. Thanks again.

Hey, everytime you take a new board out for the first time, it takes a while to get used to it.

I appreciate the financial considerations too, so...

I would persevere with the shortboard for a while. If you find that you REALLY can't get the hang of it then look at getting a longer board (but hang on to the short one too if you can!!)

Cheers
