Postby trikz14 » Mon Jun 27, 2005 7:49 pm

OK so I told everyone about my friend that gave me the board and is showing me the ropes to a and all.. He gave me these popup exercise things to practice on land to help me out for this Friday. DANG.. I’ve been sore every morning.. this shite is crazy. I work out 3-4 times a week but my shoulders and arms have been killing me for the past 3 days due to the stuff he has me doin.. i give yall made props. Anyone got any other dry land workouts I can be doing, so I can hopefully have a bit more success this weekend…any advice would be great.. Thanks.

everybody feels the soreness-doesnt matter how fit you are-in the water you use all your muscles (even ones you cant really work out) just to stay in the same place, some excercises help but youll still be a bit stiff. the best conditioning foir surfing is surfing :) good luck!

True, but you could try some 'Yoga for Surfers' as it will help with flexibility. There are a few dvds on the subject - maybe sold on this site :? .

hmm, well military presses are good for shoulders. and rotating your arms gets them tired if you do it for a longggggg time. and i think an exercise called a lat raise? you hold dumb bells at your side, and lift up vertical.

i dunno.
www.bodybuidling.com has got some good exercises.

good luck

Keep one thing in mind when doing exersize for surfing, Reps, Reps, Reps. It is really of no use to be able to bench 500lbs  in fact I have found that if I bulk-up like a body builder it is more of a hinderence. :x I would suggest that if you can't get to a pool to swim or the Ocean to paddle, do exersize that uses your own body weight like push-ups and pull up's, lot's of them. As far as the sore ribs that comes from the board, the more often you paddle the less sore your ribs will get. Another thing to think about is your weight, try to get as much cardio as possible to maintain a low body fat content. Strech as much as possible and do balance work outs. You can bypass all of the above by moving close to the ocean and surf more! 8)
