Vacation Rentals for Surf Travelers? Seeking Opinions

I am interested to see what surfers opinions are on vacation rentals...Clearly there are many choices when you travel, hotels, camps, staying with friends or some others...I happened to be more anti hotel

I have had the house/condo rental experience in Costa Rica, San Diego, NJ and Nicaragua...I think per dollar spent there is more value, amenities and space...

Recently did 9 weeks in Aus last year, was best time of my life. for the first 3/4 we actually stayed in hotels and worked out really expensive, but for the last 1/4 we ended up finding a room on airbnb and stayed with a German couple.

They were really inviting, pricing was reasonable compared to a hotel and we have amenities as well.

Other choices are hostels
