Postby Dead_One » Mon Mar 31, 2014 8:07 am

its almost time to get into the sea again.. havent surfed since October last year... its like being a 5 year old coming up to Christmas.....5 days and then down in Mawgan Porth for 2 weeks, can't wait... Just need to figure out getting the board down there, trying to find a roof rack or something:-)

I'm totally there!
Got a week in Polzeath starting 6th April. It's gonna be awesome.
As for roof racks if you have a car try one of the temporary tie down ones (e.g. http://www.npautoparts.co.uk/travel-touring-c5/car-roof-bars-c126/easy-rack-car-roof-rack-system-p22451?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=streetwize-easy-rack-car-roof-rack-system-swrb6&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=CLDPrt3LvL0CFWT4wgodNoMApA#23870)

Or just buy a normal one from Halfords or you can get some decent deals from eBay, I got my roof bars from these guys; http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/movingpartsuk

Good luck and happy wave hunting

was thinking about the softrack, its a van i have though, and not sure if you get much wind noise with them or not? been looking for a roof rack, but they are approx £100, and i hate spending money i can use on beer instead... esp. as the board is staying in cornwall for the summer, so its just a 1 way trip. was thinking of maybe shipping it down, but then again all the packaging would be more expensive than a new board:-)

Don't want to sound pedantic. But if it's travelling in a van on a one way trip can't it just fit inside?
I know it may be a bit of a squeeze but surely that would be easier than anything else. softracks don't tend to work on vans as they need the doors to be able to attach to the roof.

usually yes.. but unfortunately i have the inside filled with 4 kids, 1 wife, 1 dog, clothes for 2 weeks, 4 kids bikes, kids toys etc etc etc.... and the board is a 7'10, the van is 7'8 long at its longest, so if i squint, put it on a slope, and turn it at the right angle it fits... but not if theres anything in the back with it:-(

Ah, Yes, I had a similar problem when i bought my board.
I had to flatten my bed out and turn my passenger seat around in order to fit it in. them I bought a bag and a rack and it's been plain sailing ever since. It's worth the investment.

A little late on the scene, but I can fit my 7'10" in my MINI. I have to put all the seats down, but it fits :)

problem is fitting the 4 kids, the wife, the dog and all the stuff they need for 2 weeks away into the back as well as the board.... crew cab van doesn't leave a lot of space in the back, even when its a lwb.... it fits in the back with nothing else there...if i put it at an angle and a slope.. but not with the back full of bikes and stuff:-( ended up buying some straps and have parcelled the board up to put on the roof, should be fine:-) 44 hours 51 mins to go until i get in the water:-)
