Shame for the US Open of surfing

Postby kitesurfer » Wed Jul 31, 2013 3:10 pm

That the headlines will show drunken youths making complete tits of themselves rather than the great surfing that went on. This is definately one of the downsides to the commercial side of surfing. The twats that it attracts and those that haven't got the brain power to think for themselves.

The U.S. Open is not about surfing ...it is a commercial zoo selling a lifestyle and a look.

Most people there don't even catch any of the heats.

It brought in $20 million to the city of H.B.
Surfing is not about standing up.
It's about the board - moving on the wave.
Standing up just happens to help.

This just in....
Yob sentenced. You call that justice?

19-year-old Chase Christman of Simi Valley, California took part in violence following a surf contest in Huntington Beach in 2013 was sentenced to 80 hours of community service. The City News Service says he was sentenced Thursday (Halloween) in Orange County after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of vandalism, refusal to disperse and inciting a riot. He could have faced up to three years in prison if convicted at trial. Christman and several others, including a Fullerton firefighter, were arrested in the wake of the July violence that followed the U.S. Open of Surfing.

The companies pay the surfers. They give them a chance to surf for a living which is great. However this event has gotten out of control. They will have to make changes. The justice system is another story but surfers aren't the kind of people to tow the line for a company doing things they don't believe in.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
