What do you mean?
I mean, someone who is a good surfer and can control their board to extend their ride should also be mindful that they are on a crowded beach with a lot of beginners, boogie boarders and people just wading in the water. So if you decide to turn almost parallel to the shore, you will be cutting off several clueless kooks - like me - or nail some poor kid in the water.
It's a state beach, there's no such thing as a line-up, or there are ten line-ups if you want, so just go in a direction that assures an empty path to the beach.
Are you saying that there are no designated swimming and surfing areas on your beach? Surfers and bathers all mixed together?
I don't know where you surf, but where I am a good clean day where waves peel long enough to get a decent ride don't happen very often, especially during the summer. Today was one of those days. It's 18 miles of public beach with alternated swimming and surfing areas the entire length, and today there were log jams of surfers out there. I dropped in on someone (my bad) and got read the riot act for it, I got dropped in on a few times, we all had to maneuver our way around people and boards, but that's what happens on a crowded day. The nice long rides more than made up for the hassle, though.
Despite the traffic I don't think anyone would have appreciated the suggestion that we all just ride straight in to maintain order
