What do you mean?

I mean, someone who is a good surfer and can control their board to extend their ride should also be mindful that they are on a crowded beach with a lot of beginners, boogie boarders and people just wading in the water. So if you decide to turn almost parallel to the shore, you will be cutting off several clueless kooks - like me - or nail some poor kid in the water.
It's a state beach, there's no such thing as a line-up, or there are ten line-ups if you want, so just go in a direction that assures an empty path to the beach.

Are you saying that there are no designated swimming and surfing areas on your beach? Surfers and bathers all mixed together?

I don't know where you surf, but where I am a good clean day where waves peel long enough to get a decent ride don't happen very often, especially during the summer. Today was one of those days. It's 18 miles of public beach with alternated swimming and surfing areas the entire length, and today there were log jams of surfers out there. I dropped in on someone (my bad) and got read the riot act for it, I got dropped in on a few times, we all had to maneuver our way around people and boards, but that's what happens on a crowded day. The nice long rides more than made up for the hassle, though.

Despite the traffic I don't think anyone would have appreciated the suggestion that we all just ride straight in to maintain order

there is a "no surfing" area, but people bathe along the entire length of the beach.
I surf at Jenness in NH. it's very popular on weekends, and unfortunately due to my long commute I don't have time to surf at quieter times.

I have no objections to SUPers as long as they are controlled and respect the other surfers around. Most of the SUP's I see where I surf are pretty good about it, although I've definitely had a few waves snaked on me by SUP's catching the ride WAY earlier than possible on a regular board. I have 2 SUP's myself, but I stick to flatwater with them and use my longboard in the surf.

pmcaero :: I surf @ Jenness also!!..... you really need to avoid that beach mid-day on the weekends... just way too packed. If I go on a Saturday or Sunday in the summer, I always try to get there by 6 am.... it's really busy by 8:30 or 9. On weekdays I still try to either go really early in the morning or very late afternoon / early evening. Off season... go anytime! Give the Summer Sessions shop some of your business when you're there.... they taught me how to surf and they're an awesome bunch of guys!

I've got some good non-surfing friends up in NH (Seabrook area) and was thinking of combining a visit with some surfing. Any suggestions on good breaks in that area?

Re. SUP's, I've had no issues with them. I'm not particularly interested in it myself but the few we have out in the lineup have been generally respectful and "work and play well with others". Biggest issue is when they lose control of one of those huge boards, especially when they're not using a leash (not smart in any kind of crowded lineup), but it doesn't happen often.

RonG-

Jenness (also known as Sawyer's Beach) in Rye and 'The Wall' (North Beach in Hampton) are the most consistent spots... both only a few minutes drive from Seabrook. Been pretty flat for the last month and a half, though. In some bigger swells, there are a few other spots along Rt 1A between those beaches that start to light up, but they're beyond my abilities so I can't attest to how good they are. My skill level is still for small to mid-sized days on beach breaks.

I do have a funny one... a friend borrowed one last week and took it to Malibu on a knee high day. He said it wasn't that crowded and he was glad as he forgot to grab my leash. He is a good surfer, but his first day on the sup.
He was getting read the riot act by some guy who was telling him he was unsafe and should go elsewhere.
Myles knew he was in the wrong and really had no defense, so he did the funniest thing I have heard in a while. He said "A leash?? Wow what a great idea!! I just got this thing...saw it on TV and it looked real fun!!"
I was in tears picturing the guys face and his puzzled disgust!

Bottom line is that we are all trying to have fun

Yea I don't mind them unless they try and take every wave and have no respect. There's this one SUPer at a spot I go to sometimes who snakes EVERYONE and its so annoying!
