I know I already asked this question a while back but I cant find it in the search or anything..?

Anyway, does anyone have a site that can show me all the different moves of surfing? I am so confused on what is what like whats the difference between a frontside snap and a frontside off the lip (is that a move? more of explaining what the surfer is doing)... cutback and roundhouse..difference? what the hell is a reentry? hooks? There is so many things i dont know please help me out.. Thank you in advance if anybody can possibly help me out haha

EDIT when pulling airs, do you just grab the board anywhere or is it like skateboarding like there is tail grabs, stalefish, methods...... and also, in surfing what is the move when some one does a cutback but goes into the wave and spins a 360.. i cant imagine that being a 360... ??

Its called a reverse.
With airs it used to be if you take off its an air, but now its got more technical and so it is like skating - indys, double grabs, rodeo clowns, supermen, ally oops etc.

ok so when ur on the wave and u do a 360 its a reverse and an air reverse is a 180 in the air landing fakie.. k

difference between an off the lip and a snap? or an off the lip and a re entry.. they all look the same...
is a tail slide the same thing as a layback snap?? and now i hafta look up all the different types of grabs... damn.

anyone have a site on all this stuff? thanx

EDIT: Broosta you sure the 360 on the wave is called a reverse?
I saw that on surfline of carissa moore.. the little girl says " she cant pull 360s or an off the lip" then the clips shows her do a 'reverse' and a off the lip... you sure its not a 360? thanx

cool i just found out a tailslide is what i thought was a cutback...great, now what is the difference between a roundhouse and a cutback?

In the clip she does 360s and reverses.

360 = going right, frontside, then you turn clockwise into the wave the whole way round. Or backside, going left, turning anti-clockwise into the wave the whole way round. Obviously this is all if you are natural footed.

Reverse 360 = going right, frontside, then you do a hard top turn breaking the fins loose and therefore go into a tail slide. Keep going following through the same anti-clockwise direction all the way round.

In the clip the first move she does is a frontside re-entry. Then wrap around cutback(or roundhouse). 2 frontside 360s. Backside 360. Frontside tailslide. Frontside 360. Frontside barrell. Frontside tailslide into fakie then brings it back round. Backside cutback. Backside reverse 360. Frontside reverse 360 floater. Ending in a nice little frontside air (can't tell what type). F unbelievable!

Ok. roundhouses, are the big dramatic 'S's. I can pretty much tell the difference beteen a cutback and tailslide, tailslide lets out a lotta spray and slides it around while a cutback is like a quick sharp turn back...
Why did u say the first one was a re entry? Whats the difference between a lets say frontside re entry and a frontside off the lip, or a frontside snap??

I get what u mean with the reverses and 360s... regular 360 is into the wave while a reverse is away from the way and around, but what do you mean by "Obviously this is all if you are natural footed." I mean if im regular footed going on a backside wave and i go into the wave its still a 360, so why does it matter? and is it even possible to do a backside 360 reverse? I cant imagine anyone doing the backside tailslide is that even possible? thanx

PS now i see because an air reverse is turning to go fakie in the air so its the same thing on the wave gotcha..

A re entry is almost a cross between a floater and an air - probably is technically a floater but you just don't hang around up there like a floater, you just go up then straight back onto the normal bit of the wave. To be fair I'm not 100% on that but thats my understanding of 'em.
A snap is just a hard fast top turn - more pivotal than carvey, with plenty of spray displaced .
An off the lip is a top turn done when the wave top is starting to pitch and has become a lip.
The 'obviosly...' bit was just to clarify things in case you were a goofy and thinking its all wrong!
Carissa does a backside 360 reverse in the clip, and even I can do backside tailslides!

that reenrty is definately off a lip, and on anotehr site a 'snap' was like an off the lip... idk

er no . From what I can tell its a bit of a grey area with a certain amount of overlap.

An ally oop (frontside natural/regular footed version) is frontside air rotating 90 degrees clockwise landing on wave and then spinning the rest of the way still clockwise.

Right then now you know all the moves you just need to get out there and perfect 'em!
I've been trying frontside 360s for years and never pulled one whilst still on the wave - but I am getting closer, just need the right conditions....! Also nearly pulled a reverse once - think it was a bit of a fluke tho as I haven't tried many.

Having inconsistant surf is just so annoying - we get 1 week of waves so you can progress a bit then just when you're close to sussing a move it goes flat for a month and then you're back to square 1 again !

man i love the mentality of surfing when u throw an air and u dont say what th grab was ur just having fun .. u know it was a grab who cares what kind. sometimes tho i wish it was like skateboarding... all technical. . in the OT the guy after the roundhouse is like niiice cutback. But it was a tailslide?!??! its pissing me off that i cant watch surfing and not know what guys are throwing .. help me out one more time man haha

Globesurfer it seems very hard to find a definitive guide on these moves but they seem like they are all just slight variations of the same basic move - a top turn - unless anyone else knows better?

Thats a decent site, probably wont have the specifics like your asking for. But, I personally wouldnt really care. I would just go out there and do a cutback, and if i end up doing a roundhouse, fine by me (im lucky if i can do either ). As long as what your doing fits with the wave your riding, it shouldnt matter what its called, as long as it look cool .

I was looking at the vancouver island site and a kayak site of moves on waves... Well i found out that the rentry is like when u do a top turn and sorta go the other way..when i say 'i caught you' i mean when you were telling me the moves of carissa.. u said a move was a backside cutback... thats really a re entry..
im getting a lot better with the moves finally.. thanx for ur help

ok well go on to the vancouver site i gave u .. its above in one of my posts.. most of the time when u see someone go to the top of the wave and pivot its a snap... an off the lip is yea off the lip snap really... and re entry is when u turn ur body earlier and u can tell its a re entry because lets say a surfer is surfing a right hander and they do a re entry .. they go up and after they pivot they go the other direction.. if u saw the surfer from the beach he would first go left.. do the reenrty and be going right, he would then turn and coninue down the wave... hope it helps haha the least i could do is give u a vid.. so i will have one if i can find it..
