Careers!

Postby wharden12 » Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:24 am

Ive been surfing my entire life. Surfing is what I love. All I think about is surfing...well besides my truck and girls of course... but still, its the greatest thing for me. Its that time in my life where im suppose to know what i want to do with it. Ive always wanted to go into the surfing industry somehow. Taking people on surf adventures would be amazing but im not sure how to do that. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do to make a career in the surf industry? any feedback would be awesome.

You could apply for a job with one of the surf industry manufactures, become a surf industry sales rep, start your own surf company, try out surf photography, to name a few ideas. Good luck!

Yes, Safari Town is mine. I started out selling surf gear out of the back of my Toyota pick up at the beach, and tried to build the business up little by little. It was very difficult with no money and no ability to get a bank loan, but i really wanted it. My brother in law and I also built surfboards for some of the local surfers, and offered surfboard ding repair. I had the attitude of doing whatever it takes. If you want something bad enough you can make it happen! It may mean working somewhere else for awhile and saving your money to invest in your dream, or working nights to help make it happen. Good luck and work hard! Let me know if you decide to start your own shop.

Thank you for this advise.. I already to own my own surf shop but this just sent it over the top. My dad and I are going to try out shaping some boards. First for ourselves so we know how we did and if we do good then who knows. Thank you again. Im going to pursue this dream with all the effort i have.

very interesting to hear about your grass roots business story there in OR. Good for you (and thanks for sharing)!

How about training to be an instructor? there's a few surf schools kicking around which I'm sure would enjoy some help in teh meantime if you needed a bit of experience?
