because every spot is different there is no "best time to surf"

I suppose that in hot countries with sea breezes then if theres no other weather systems going on its usually offshore winds in the morning so better waves but onshore and mushy in the afternoon. then you have to take into account tides and swell direction etc. essentially when the waves are good is the best time to surf.

but not when its dark, surfing in the dark is very difficult, not impossible, just difficult.

For some of our inland surfers they don't even have the luxury of when the surf is best it is just when ever they can get there.
BTW if you only wait for the surf to be its best a lot of spots will continually frustrate you.
there are also a lot of different bests.
Best point surf
best barrel,
best beginners' wave,
best reef break,
best morning surf
best longboard wave,

It really is like; how long is a piece of string :?:
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

It is imperative. We need to commission a survey to address the length of a string!
