Buildin a hollow wooden board.

Hey gus, I'm pretty interested in building a hollow wooden board. Is it possible to build one for about $100 like this website says, http://woodsurfboardplan.com/ , or is it going to cost me a few hundred? And also, are there any disadvantage to hollow wooden boards? Thanks!
