Where to surf in Oahu during the winter? Can't do north shor

Hi Guys,
I will be staying in Waikiki from Dec 24 to 29 and would like to do some surfing. As far as the north shore goes during the winter, I can only watch.
So, what would be a couple of easier spots to surf during the winter. Maybe something on the south shore?

Since we are on the topic, is there anywhere your recommend for rentals?
