This is my little tale of a Winter's Woe!!

I don't know if anyone's ever heard of the 'HandiRack' inflatable roofrack?

It's a great invention that allows poor people like myself to transport their boards!!

Unfortunately it has a little design flaw - When it rains, it soaks the inside of your car!!

Due to this, my last surfing trip of last year (November) ended badly. We had just got all the boards on the roof and were heading for home when the heaven's opened. The resulting flood into the car caused us to re-evaluate our situation.

Anyway my friend and I ended up having to leave our boards in Bournemouth with a friend and since then a serious of bizzare misfortunes have prevented us from getting them back.

Anyway - my friend from Bournemouth is coming up this weekend and I will get my baby back at last.

Time for the ceremonial stripping of the old wax and the reapplying ready for the next session!!

I've had the same problem, it's a nightmare.

I just bought some new racks for my car, my brothers came over for a visit and brought boards (normally my board just goes in the back of the car) so I got some new racks, foft racks from Creatures of Leisure. They clip under the doors without messing with the door seals and work really well - I recommend them (they can take 3 shortboards and you do not need roofracks on your car)

hey sinista, great news about your boards man :) speakin of racks though, on my car, we have normal roof racks, and just use like jump rope thingys to tie my board on top, no padding other than the boardbag (5mm) is that ok? its a pop out so its quite tough. if i got a 'real' board though would i need more padding?

Hi Freaky

I would probably get a little more padding when you get a 'real' board. Don't go mad though. Nip down to Homebase or B&Q and get some foam 'pipe cladding' which is used to stop pipes freezing in winter. Just tape this to your racks.

That said, I used to strap my popout to my old racks with no padding, not even a bag!!
