Need Help Picking a board

Postby beef55555 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 7:16 pm

Here is the deal.

I have a surf board from when I was 8. I used it for a number of summers, but since I do not live near the beach I haven't used it recently. I am now 23 and want to get a new board.

About me:

I am a nuclear engineer, but I love being outside. I grew up sailing hobies on the ocean and riding them up on the beach. I only go to the summer twice a year and usually to the outerbanks (east coast). With at the beach I skim board and bodysurf usually, but always look at the waves and wanted to get back into surfing. I have a number of longboard skateboards and this summer at the beach I rented a medium length surfboard (about 6.5ft). I had no trouble catching waves and after a few waves I was having no trouble getting up.

What I am looking for is:
Something fun to ride
Something easy to handle
Something good for the outerbanks
Something not too expensive.
What I want to know is:
What type of board should I go with (short, long,....)
Is there a brand that I should go for?
What should I look for and what should I look out for?

Well if you used to surf since you were 8 then you would certainly know a decent bit about surfboarding. I think the Js Parko Signature would be a great deal. It is a 6 feet 2 inch board with a hip squash tail. Although it is a board for pros and you don't surf that often but this board will bring you back to it. It is an amazing thing to be on.
