Help finding a Surfer Magazine fiction story

Hi. My first post. I am trying to find a fiction story from Surfer Magazine, published between 1964 and 1966 (I think). I have contacted both Surfer Magazine and The Surfing Heritage Foundation. These nice folk tried to find it, but no dice. This from memory-- Two gringos are on a surfing safarie somewhere in Central or South America... maybe Costa Rica. Secluded break, have the place to themselves. Go out for the evening glass off. Waves are just overhead and steady. Nice. The waves get increasingly larger, and larger-- and then huge. Darkness coming. The pair keep paddling out deeper to stay beyond the breakline. One of the two decides to go for it, just to get in. We do not learn his fate. The remaining guy doesn't know what to do but just to keep paddling deeper as these monsters roll under him in the now dark. Eventually he decides he must go for it, too. Pitch black now. The moon is at thirty degrees. He can tell that the monster wave is coming on him because it blocks the moon. He turns, paddles, and drops. We do not know his fate either. I think this story is called "The Longest Ride." Can anyone send me a copy? Gotta a buddy who could use it bad. Thanks guys. Garry

I don't know the Surfer Magazine reference; but its almost a direct story by Bear in the movie Big Wednesday. I actually don't think the scene was in the movie; but is posted on IMDB and other sites; but might of been in Surfer Mag back in the day as a "lost story".

Note: Big Wednesday is the best surf fiction movie of all time. If you have not scene it I would recommend it for the days when the swell is down. Grab a pint and some pretzels and sit back for some good movie watching!
