Today was my first experience with cold surfing conditions.

I live in SoCal, and for the most part the water is chilly. But this morning was frigid. I need booties badly. My feet hurt so bad on the walk back to the car. Like stepping on needles. But I caught a few good waves for what there was, so it's worth it. :D

booties needed?

Hey deadite, sounds to me like you're asking for bootie advice, not for a scolding about complaining. Best of luck with cold water, it sounds like it's definitely worth it. I plan to be doing this myself in the near future. I think it would feel very weird but very cool to blow steam while in the ocean.

I was simply relating my story. I have booties now. And to whomever asked...I'm a guy...don't roll your eyes at me. 8)

Yeah cold waters are def great for surfing. Up here in WA we get great winter waves that roll in. It's hella cold, I'll give you that, but for those waves it's totally worth it.

I see. Sorry, I misunderstood you. hehe

Yeah, things tend to shrink a bit. I'd say girls have the advantage there. Perky boobs vs. a small package. haha :D

The thing I hate the most about surfing cold water is if you don't pee while your in the water, and when your frozen and get out to warm up for awhile and then being too cold to get back in, having to pee and see how much you actually did shrink...

I'm in Virginia Beach and right now the water is about 42 degrees. 4/3, gloves, boots, and sometimes a hood. Last winter I was out with icicles forming off the brim of my hood. I don't know how the guys in the Northeast US (i.e. New Jersey, New York, Boston) do it.

Cold water is rough but changing out of a wetsuit in 25 degree weather with a wind is brutal!!!

Sometimes, it's just the price you gotta pay though. The crowds really thin out in the winter.
