But I suppose if I had to only surf 1 beach it would be Lower Trestles - never surfed it but sounds like my type of wave ('a skatepark made of water'!).
Truth is I'd hate to only surf 1 beach.

Thanks for these. :D

(not really.)

the Severn Bore! You're going to link your beach to the Severn Bore? What are they going to do the rest of the year? I think some of those futureworld punters are going to want their money back, you know?
But, in truth that gives me some ideas about a simulated endless river wave, that goes on forever, possibly in a huge circular thing. Hell it could be around the surfworld like the rings of Saturn. That's something to think about. (I know about that because of where I live.)

Banzai pipeline? Interestingly one of my characters is currently named Christof Banzai. By pure fluke. He was called Christof and I needed a surname so I picked up the dictionary and grabbed the first promising word I came to (as a working name, not necessarily forever) and struck on Banzai. Christof Banzai> Christ of Banzai? Something's going on there. Maybe I should use that name for one of the keen surfers instead.
This is a place with a particularly curled wave, I take it? I think there would be a couple of simulated waves available where you could ride down a kind of pipe of wave indefinitely.

You'd hate to only surf one beach? Are there any beaches that have a lot of different moods?

Thing is, right...
For the sake of the book being remotely interesting, I think you'd need to recreate what people wish they could surf

Most people here (and indeed most surfers) would love to be surfing Pipeline for instance.
:surfing:

...But more realistically, I'd go back to one particular day in Devon when it was a consistent 3ft at 15s for the whole day. I had the best surf Ive ever had... but it'd be a really boring story!

Thanks. Well, to be honest I'm not relying on the surfing to supply the interest. I'm hoping that if the readers have come this far they're interested in what's going to happen to the characters as their top priority, so the surfing can be as dull as it wants, really! I don't want it to be dull, but I'm not going to let it upstage anything so close to the end, either.

There's no way a surfworld would exist without some of the things people wish they could surf, but it won't be my main characters doing any of that. It'll be in there. I feel a need to include something that doesn't have any comparison in the present day, though. I'm still working on what that might be.

They are just a few well known surf spot names to throw about in your surf world.

Banzai Pipeline or 'Pipe' is one of the most famous waves and is on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Its a really gnarly, hollow left hand breaking wave that breaks over shallow lava reef and has claimed a few lives over the years.

Actually you'd be better crossing Aberdeen off, you don't want the whole credibility of the book falling on one point!!

Many thanks for all these names and suggestions. :D

I'm starting to write my surf chapter today. 8) May end up going to Woollacombe later in the week so I hope to use that to add some telling details.

I have crossed off Aberdeen.

Or have I?

For fun I'm going to write in as many of Broosta's place names as I can on first draft and see where I go from there.

Any of you want your user names written in? (No promises.)

I would if it wasn't so cliched. I can write Real Pol in if you want.

I have written the chapter. It's okay. Just a first draft. There's a real mean instructor who threatens to beat people over the head with their boards. I wasn't expecting him to materialise but I'm keeping him for the moment.
