well that sucks.

had a few sessions on the reefs lately. including one where i had a pretty sketchy exit due to not figuring out where to get out before went in. all right sessions though nothing special.

Wild weekend - NSW (Oz, East Coast)

Postby drowningbitbybit » Sun Jun 15, 2008 4:28 am

Its been a bit of a weekend here on the east coast...

Before the storm... looking quite tasty...
Image

Okay, here it comes... looking quite pretty at the moment...
Image

The waves are here!
There's not a lot to put scale on here, but take my word for it, thats one big mother of a wave. Think double overhead.
Image

A small crowd was game for a go in the relatively protected southern end of maroubra
Image

Over at Coogee (a much smaller wave) there was a much bigger line up. You might wanna take a deep breath people...
Image

...But they made the best of it and proved it was surfable.
Image

And this one just about sums why I decided not to go out today
Image

So, there's definitely been waves this weekend, and Im sure there's been some awesome waves caught this weekend at the right spot, but all my local spots were almost out of control. Due to my crap photography, you cant really get a feel for the size of some of these waves. Others Ive seen today out on the headlands have been treble overhead and as heavy as anything Ive ever seen. And no-one out at all.
The wind is supposed to drop in the next day or two and then there should be something quite epic.

Ross's Report - Bronte to Bondi
Report filed Jun-15 09:14
Big, wild, wooly and BIG! No surfables from Bronte to Bondi. Let me know if you want to go surfing and I'll call the Westpac helicopter.

Yep it looks small from the picture but when you're on your surfboard and see those kinds of wave, I feel like taking a piss and hope that mother nature takes me lightly.

Looks good to me. I'd be out in flash! Got enough power to push through the awkward winds.

The Bombie had a wave on the sets..

Its hard to see the scale, but thats a Bombora that runs parellel with Bellambi Point and you could park a car in that Barrell.

Dolphins R DA BOMB! So the surf this morning was pretty crappy at my local break, but I had the most amazing experience.

I was sitting out in the water by myself waiting for a set and all of a sudden I see about 3 or 4 dolphins come around the pier. They swam straight toward me. They were jumping in and out of the water on all sides of me. They got as close as 8-10 feet. They played in the surf and the water around me for at least a minute and then continued their journey south. I have seen dolphins lots of times in the past, but never that close. It was magical. I just sat there stunned for several minutes. What an amazing session!

Holy Smoke, that second to last picture. I hope that guy made a bee line for the bottom. If not that guy got crushed. Great and fun pictures.
