I went over to Scarborough for a surf Thursday night and went to get in Friday morning.
Got down to South Bay 'the spa' around 6.30(ish) for a surf check. I was down there with two mates and we were just about to leave when my mate 'Potter' noticed a guy in the sea. He was washed up against the sea wall and kept going under looking in a lot of trouble. At this point we were the only ones in the area so we grabbed all life rings we could and made enough contact to start moving him to a less dangerous area. We didn't know if he had already got the onset of hyperthermia as he had only a sweathshirt and jeans on and he'd been under a number of times. He wasn't speaking or responding either. We called Police and ambulance as soon as we spotted him and they responded quickly. By the time we got him to the ramp they carried on, we had a silver blanket and wrapped him up until ambulance got there. Guess we were just in the right place at the right time.
Eventful start to the day! Just wondering if anyone in the Scarborough area heard if he was mentioned on the news or if he was alright?
Other than that had a couple of hours 'fighting' to get out back and managed a total of one ride lol!
What bothered me later in the day was the massive swell hitting North Bay and the fact people were walking there kids along the defence wall when the road was shut because of the waves crashing over it!
