Gaviota Coast - Still Another Secret Spot

Our intrepid duo, Roxy & billie, visited still another secret spot in the unspoiled Gaviota Coast. Here's some photos from their adventure. The first one shows a happy girl.

Fine textured marine sedimentary layers. This is a portion of the Cozy Dell Shale formation. Crude oil is recovered from this formation deep below channel waters and on the terrestrial bluffs.

Cozy Dell Shale formation closeups. billie enjoys this stuff. Roxy is only interested if it is edible.

Healthy shellfish abound. Shellfish like this contributed to a rich diet for the Chumash tribesmen than flourished along the south coast before the Europeans arrived.

...and sometimes on our adventures, we rest in the shade. We find ourselves doing more of this on our adventures than in previous years. Not so many non-stop 12 to 15 mile hikes. We must be getting old.

Sometimes we stop at cool streams so Roxy can get a fresh water drink.

Some nice rail to rail action in that first photo
It’s amazing how quickly coastlines become deserted when it takes more than 5 minutes from the nearest car park
