Hello. I am deciding between 2 cameras, the canon 70d and the sony a6000.
I can get them for around the same price along with about 200mm lenses. I plan on using which ever one I get as my everyday and any type of photography camera along with a good amount of surf/action photography. I will also be using them to start to make surf videos in the future. Which one would be the best all around camera for what i want to do?

I have read online plenty about both and I am still stuck. Also this will be my real digital camera but I have shot on film and regular digital so I am not a total photo noob.

I am very stuck on which one to get… Thanks for the help if you can!!!!!

Hah....I just had a conversation the other day....as good as phone cameras are getting, I was saying that I don't think I'll ever buy a camera again.

You know when you get someone saying "shall I buy this 9' longboard or this 5'8 fish? They're about the same price"? This is a bit like that about cameras!

Two completely different types of camera for two different things.

The Canon 70D is a great entry-level dSLR for doing real photography, while the Sony a6000 is a great camera to have with you all the time, ready to shoot.

If you're interested in getting a 'real' camera, and taking a significant step up from a phone camera, get the Canon. Nothing will change the benefits of an optical viewfinder, and down the track, you'll be able to update the Canon camera and still use the same lenses, while that may not turn out to be true for the a6000.

Hell, I think I'm allowed to stick in a URL or two here too just to show I know what I'm talking about...

I reall like my canon! Shoot both stills and video, but also have dedicated video camera. Best bit of advice get a good basic DSLR as entry spend the money you save on a really good lens or two, the lens stay with you as you upgrade the bodies!
