I think he is just used to people who are vegetarians/vegans pushing their beliefs. I have two friends that are vegitarians, and they both claim that if it wasnt for cheese, they would be vegans. They dont push their beleifs, so I dont push mine.

Though like every good battle, both sides think they are right, and both sides have fairly good proof backing up their sides. So that being said......I am right about how eating meat is better for you.... :P

There is proof that being a vegitarian, is not good for you(comming from my nutritionist), you have to supplement your eating regimine with a lot of pills to make up for lost nutrients. Though, on the flip side, being a vegitarian, you emliminate alot of bad fats.

So Like I said, good arguments on both sides.

1) BDW - your photos, as usual, are awesome! I love the autumn (sorry, fall!) coloured leaf in the duck photo, for me it really sets it off! Do you have any pics of puffins?

2) I'm not a veggie but I love veggie food - unfortunately I also like meat too much to give it up! I do agree with hunting for food purposes, and whilst travelling have killed chickens (had to cut the throat and bleed them as I was in a Muslim country and was cooking for our guides as well, no neck-wringing here!) and rabbits (including gutting, skinning and quartering them). It's not something I particularly enjoyed, but we needed to eat, and I also see it as a 'lost art' (ok well maybe not an art!) a bit like blacksmithing, dry stone walling etc....if these things are lost then that's another bit of our heritage lost. (i know it's not exactly in the same but I'm sure someone will get my drift!).

3) Batman - I totally agree with your comments about txtspk (!) - I hate this! i have no issues with mis-spelled words but when people are just lazy about it it does my head in!

Thanks Cheezee! One of these days I'd love to have a little smallholding and be self-sufficient (or a bit self-sufficient at least)....a few chickens and ducks (mmm, eggs!), some goats (mmm, cheese!), and a good fruit and veg garden! Heaven! :D

As long as we have memories of guys like this,

Image

and people like Ray Mears, might not be spelt right, there are people out there at least trying to educate us in the lost arts of survival. What do you think Sal

Sorry, I was just on the phone to a customer booking a survival and bushcraft weekend, how's that for a coincidence?!

Yeah, I totally agree Mark, people might whinge about it but if it wasn't for people like Ray then there would be a lot of knowledge and skill lost, which might not be seen as particularly relevant now, but come the great big technological breakdown we seem to be preparing the world for in the not-too-distant future, who'll be laughing then?!
